3 Tips To Prepare Your AC For The Spring

|

Spring is finally just around the corner! The sun beaming onto your skin is a feeling something we should all cherish, but the same can’t be said for a hot house. If you don’t have a functioning air conditioner in the coming months, staying inside can be worse than going outside. You don’t want to get caught with a broken system, so here are a few tips to prepare your AC for the spring:

Clean Out Your Filters

We previously recommended cleaning your filters to prepare your heater for the winter, and we’re doing the same here for your AC unit. As a general rule of thumb, you should have your HVAC filters cleaned out every season. You might even need to replace them depending on the damage. Clearing the way for proper airflow is key to maintaining a comfortable, cool home in the warmer months. On top of that, it can extend your system’s lifespan!

Prepare Your AC With A Test Run

Sometimes the best way to make sure something works is to just turn it on and see for yourself! Turning on your AC can reveal issues that would otherwise go unnoticed. When you turn it on, put your hands up to your vents to make sure an adequate amount of air is dispensing, and keep an eye out for any suspicious sounds or odors. If you want to know what exactly to look out for, the U.S. Department of Energy laid out all sorts of common AC problems. If anything is amiss, turn the AC off and call an HVAC specialist at your earliest convenience.

Schedule Preventative Maintenance

If you don’t have the time and/or patience to upkeep your AC, you’re most likely better off hiring someone to do everything for you. That’s nothing to be ashamed of.  In most cases, it’s probably better to have a professional do it. Only they will know exactly what to look out for and how to fix any problem before it arises. We cannot overstate the importance of preventative maintenance!

It can be a tall task to prepare your AC for the upcoming seasons. Hopefully, now you feel a bit more ready to create a safe, comfortable home. If you’re not sure what to do, or if a problem requires immediate attention, be sure to give Quality Home HVAC a call!
